Practicum & Internship
Starting out as a therapist is one of the most exciting and challenging transitions you'll make. At Better Connections, we're committed to making that transition meaningful.
What We Offer
Hours toward your graduation requirements
One hour of weekly, in-person supervision
Paid trainings to deepen your clinical knowledge
A $100 monthly stipend
Hands-on experience and tangible skills to help you translate your education into your own authentic therapeutic style
Intern Responsibilities
Provide therapy to individuals, couples, and/or families
Complete case conceptualizations and treatment plans
Submit session notes by end of each week
Maintain good standing with your school
Communicate program requirements clearly
Track and submit hours for approval

Affiliate Therapist
Better Connections offers licensed therapists a straightforward, flexible contracting model designed to support your independence and your growth. We believe licensed clinicians deserve a space that supports their growth without getting in the way of it. As an Affiliate Therapist, you'll have the freedom to run your practice the way you want, with the infrastructure and community of Better Connections behind you.
What We Offer
True independence as a 1099 Independent Contractor
No fee splits. Just a simple monthly Affiliate Fee based on a portion of overhead determined by the number of days you see clients in person
The flexibility to see clients in person, virtually, or both
A connected community of providers to network and grow alongside
What you'll need to join:
An active license in good standing with The Board
Your own malpractice and liability insurance
An LLC and business accounts in your name
A commitment to staying current with all licensure and client care requirements

Hi, I’m Emma,
therapist, supervisor, and the person behind Better Connections.
I started this practice because I spent too long seeing how the traditional practice model fails clinicians. Fee splits that don't make sense. Supervision that feels like oversight. No real community. I wanted something different.
My clinical work focuses on couples, trauma, ADHD, and attachment, with training in Gottman Method, EMDR, IFS, ACT, and sex therapy. But on the Careers side of things, what matters most is this: I'm an AAMFT Supervisor Candidate who genuinely loves the supervision process, a private practice consultant who has helped other therapists build their businesses, and someone who has navigated the hard parts of this field and wants to make it easier for the people coming behind me.

Better Connections Therapy offers therapy services to individuals, couples, and families throughout the Philadelphia area, including South Jersey, the Main Line, and beyond. Therapy is also offered virtually for those in Pennsylvania and New Jersey who prefer to work from home. Wherever you’re coming from, we’ll help you make the most of your time here.

We welcome graduate students pursuing degrees in Marriage & Family Therapy, Professional Counseling, and related mental health fields. If you're unsure whether your program qualifies, reach out and we'll figure it out together.

Supervision is provided by Emma Carpenter, LMFT and AAMFT Supervisor Candidate. You'll receive one hour of weekly in-person individual supervision focused on case conceptualization, skill-building, and helping you develop your own clinical identity

The Affiliate Fee covers your portion of practice overhead — things like office space, scheduling infrastructure, billing support, and the operational costs of running the practice. The fee is scaled based on the number of days you see clients in person, so you're only paying for what you actually use. Your exact fee will be explained to you in detail with full transparency.

Yes. All contracted clinicians must have an active LLC and dedicated business accounts prior to joining. If you're in the process of setting yours up, we're happy to have a conversation while you get those pieces in place.
