Individual therapy in philadelphia: manage depression & anxiety

individual therapy for women

You’ve been holding so much for so long and it’s starting to wear you down.

Maybe you’re feeling:

  • Disconnected from the people around you—even in close relationships, it’s like there’s a wall you can’t break through.

  • Overwhelmed by responsibility, always racing the clock with too much on your plate and never enough time.

  • Exhausted from juggling and comparing, yet still feeling like you're falling behind.

  • Alone in the effort, like no one really sees how hard you’re working just to keep it all together.

What you truly want is:

  • To feel at ease in your own life, able to breathe without pressure.

  • To show up authentically in your relationships, without performing or pretending.

  • To feel grounded and confident, trusting that you're exactly where you're meant to be.

  • More connection, more clarity, more peace.

I built this practice for exactly that person — the one who looks fine on paper but is running on fumes underneath.

struggling with perfectionism and people pleasing?

Individual therapy is a collaborative process where we’ll work together to explore your inner world, identify patterns that no longer serve you, and create meaningful change. You’ll learn to understand and shift over-functioning habits—like constantly putting others first or equating your worth with productivity—while also addressing the root of the early experiences that taught you love was conditional, or that you had to earn your place in the room.

Your sessions provide a safe space to process and manage symptoms of depression and anxiety, offering tools for regulation, clarity, and self-compassion. Over time, you’ll be able to stop measuring your worth by how much you produce or how little you need and reconnect with your own needs, values, and voice so you can live from a place that feels more grounded and true to who you are.

WHat To expect in individual therapy

We make sure to learn all about you so we can tailor your therapy experience your specific needs

Initial Session

During your first session your therapist will give you the space to share the things you find most important. We’ll learn about the struggles you’re facing, the journey you’ve been on, and where you want to go. There's no right or wrong way to show up to that first session. Just show up

Relationships

Looking at your past relationships (romantic, familial, and even friendships) can help us uncover what you’ve learned about love, safety, and connection, and what you might be ready to unlearn. This isn't about blaming anyone. It's about understanding the blueprint you were handed

Your world

Understanding the different parts of your culture, identity, environment, and past experiences helps us see how they've shaped the way you move through life. We aim to know you as a whole person, not just for the issues that are bringing you in. We know there is so much to what defines the real you

collaboration

Throughout our work together, we’ll set goals that feel meaningful to you. With space to process and practical tools to support you, our aim is to help you reconnect with yourself and those who matter most. The goal isn't just to feel better in session. It's to feel different in your actual life

emdr therapy for trauma

EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) is a specific type of trauma therapy that targets negative self beliefs so you can break free of harmful patterns that no longer serve you. This therapy is also great for those who struggle to see improvement in regular talk therapy when trying to manage anxiety and depression.

If you’re feeling a sense of urgency when it comes to healing and weekly sessions just don’t feel like they are going to cut it, we offer Weekend Intensives where we can deep dive into the therapy process and get you the stability and movement you’re looking for

Meet your therapist

Emma Carpenter LMFT

Hi, I’m Emma, and I know how exhausting it can feel to carry anxiety, trauma, relationship patterns, or ADHD struggles on your own. I help adults make sense of what feels stuck, overwhelming, or disconnected so they can move through life with more clarity and confidence. My approach is research-informed and relational, integrating EMDR, attachment-focused work, and practical ADHD strategies to create meaningful, lasting change.
