Clinical supervision for Therapists in Philadelphia, PA & New Jersey

individual and group LMFT and LPC supervision. Relational, attachment-focused, and actually useful

systemically based supervision

If you are drawn to the complexity of family systems, relationship dynamics, and attachment-based work, you already know that this work asks a lot of you. Holding space for couples in crisis, families stuck in generational patterns, or individuals carrying trauma they have never named is meaningful and it is hard. Clinical supervision at Better Connections Therapy is built for therapists like you.

Emma Carpenter offers individual and group supervision for pre-licensed therapists working toward LMFT or LPC licensure in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as licensed clinicians who want a grounding space for reflection, growth, and support. Whether you are logging hours, building your clinical voice, or expanding your systemic lens, this is supervision that takes you seriously as the clinician you are becoming.

You are doing meaningful work and you want to do it well. Maybe you are navigating licensure hours and feeling the pressure to figure out your clinical voice while also managing a full caseload. Maybe you are newly licensed and realizing that passing the exam was the beginning, not the finish line. Either way, you deserve supervision that challenges you, steadies you, and actually helps you become the therapist you set out to be. We specialize in helping clinicians who:

  • Want to strengthen your work with couples, families, or adult children and their parents

  • Are drawn to attachment theory, intergenerational dynamics, or using Gottman Method with couples

  • Feel apprehensive about how to work with ADHD and trauma in individuals

  • Feel unsure how to stay grounded when sessions become emotionally intense or stuck

  • Need a space to explore countertransference and parallel process in your work

  • Crave thoughtful, collaborative guidance as you build your identity as a clinician

Emma Carpenter therapist Philadelphia

Emma Carpenter, LMFT, AAMFT supervisor candidate

I see supervision as both a safe haven and a space for growth. My goal is to help supervisees bridge theory and practice, reflect on who they are as therapists, and build confidence in their clinical voice. Through this process, I aim to support the development of thoughtful, competent systemic thinkers who will continue to strengthen and evolve our field.

I offer supervision grounded in warmth, curiosity, and collaboration. I have extensive training in relational, systemic, and attachment-based approaches, and am Level 3 Gottman Trained. I also specialize in ADHD, CPTSD, and am EMDR trained. I have intentionally sought out AAMFT supervision training to ensure quality supervision and am currently an AAMFT Supervisor Candidate. AAMFT Supervisor Candidate is a nationally recognized designation for therapists actively completing advanced training in clinical supervision through the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

In supervision, you can expect reliable, scheduled sessions that honor your time, clinical goals, and growth as a systemic clinician. We balance case staffing with intentional didactic moments, exploring theory, reflective practice, therapist self‑awareness, and cultural humility. I am actively mindful of power dynamics, striving to build a safe, non‑judgmental space where feedback is empowering and collaborative rather than evaluative.

WHat To expect in clinical supervision

Seeing the Whole Picture

Good therapy does not happen in a vacuum and neither does good supervision. We’ll look at the broader relational, cultural, and systemic contexts shaping your clients' lives, including the ones they can’t see yet. Case conceptualization, treatment planning, and the patterns underneath the presenting problem are all fair game

Supervision That Fits Your Life

Individual and dyadic supervision is available in person at the Northern Liberties office in Philadelphia or virtually for therapists anywhere in Pennsylvania or New Jersey. Sessions can be weekly, biweekly, or monthly depending on your licensure track, your caseload, and what you actually need right now. Virtual group supervision is offered throughout the year as well

Tools That Actually Work

You won’t leave supervision with vague encouragement & a reading list. You’ll leave with concrete, research-informed tools you can use with your clients the following week, especially for sessions that feel chaotic, stuck, or emotionally charged. For supervisees working with couples, this includes Gottman Method case conceptualization and intervention review

Finding Your Voice in the Room

Technique matters. So does the person using it. We’ll work on your use of self, your boundaries, and your own coping skills for the moments when the room gets heavy and you’re not sure what to do next. You’ll leave with more clarity about the kind of therapist you are becoming, not just the kind you are supposed to be, because who you are matters
